A Pelletized Diet for Captive Benthic Crustaceans

چکیده
In recent years~ severaL species of crab have come under increasing study by scientists. Fluctuations in populations of important commercial species (the blue crab) and the commercial potential of others (the rock crab and deep sea red crab) have led t o this increased attention. But in lab situations, researchers have had problems keeping their specimens alive and healthy for long periods. It has been difficult to insure that crabs get sufficient nutrients in traditional laboratory diets.

The diet of the peacock wrasse, Symphodus (Crenilabrus) tinca (Labridae), in the southern coast of Tunisia
The feeding habits of the peacock wrasse, Symphodus (Crenilabrus) tinca (Linnaeus, 1758), from the southern coast of Tunisia were investigated with respect to fish size and season. Stomach contents of 1334 specimens, 8.1-23.1 cm total length, were analyzed. Of the total, 1166 were empty (87.4%). This percentage varied over the year, with a maximum during the spawning period (MayJuly) and minimu...
متن کاملPhylogeography of Ponto-Caspian crustaceans: a benthic-planktonic comparison.
The Black, Azov, Caspian and Aral Seas, remnants of the intracontinental Paratethys basin, are home to a spectacular diversity of crustaceans. This study examines the past history of the Ponto-Caspian fauna through comparative phylogeographical studies on both benthic and planktonic taxa, based on an examination of nucleotide diversity in the mitochondrial, cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) ...
متن کاملDNA barcoding identifies a cosmopolitan diet in the ocean sunfish
The ocean sunfish (Mola mola) is the world's heaviest bony fish reaching a body mass of up to 2.3 tonnes. However, the prey M. mola consumes to fuel this prodigious growth remains poorly known. Sunfish were thought to be obligate gelatinous plankton feeders, but recent studies suggest a more generalist diet. In this study, through molecular barcoding and for the first time, the diet of sunfish ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Food Hardness on the Development of Dental Caries in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats
We have previously shown that dental caries may be produced in diabetic rodent models fed with noncariogenic standard diets; however, many studies usually add large amounts of sugar to the diet to induce dental caries. Moreover, the physical properties of cariogenic diets have been reported as an important factor in the formation of caries. The aim of this study was to clarify the effect of the...
متن کاملDiet selectivity of juvenile blue crabs (Callinectes sapidus) in Chesapeake Bay.
Shallow coves in Chesapeake Bay have abundant food and serve as nursery grounds for juvenile blue crabs. In this study, we examined the relationships between the diet of very small (4-40 mm CW) juvenile blue crabs and the benthic infauna in shallow, unvegetated nursery coves. We compared infauna in benthic samples with gut contents of juvenile blue crabs from six shallow coves in each of two su...
